The Family Systems Institute is the a division of The Center for Children and Families, Inc., which is non-profit organization that operates with the commitment of being “dedicated to the promotion of safe, healthy environments for children and families through advocacy, counseling, education, and prevention”. Established in 2004, The Center for Children and Families operates as an umbrella organization for three separate child justice and treatment agencies, CASA of Northeast Louisiana, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeast Louisiana, and the Family Systems Institute.
The Family Systems Institute has developed innovative treatment programs that specifically target fractured family relationships. Services are delivered in the natural environment to ensure that the therapist is able to fully participant in activating resources available to families. Our ultimate goal is to empower families to build an environment that promotes family stability through a process of utilization and creativity that incorporates indigenous family and community strengths.
The Systemic Family Therapy approach taught by mentors and teachers, Dr. Wendel Ray and Dr. Bradford Keeney provides the framework for the success of the services. Under their guidance, the clinical practice and corporate culture of the Family Systems Institute has been recognized as cutting edge by international leaders in the field of family therapy.
The treatment programs serve families that are faced with the most challenging conditions and circumstances in our region. Our clients, who are referred from agencies including the Office of Community Services, the Office of Juvenile Justice, school systems, local courts, and other treatment providers, are at risk of being removed from their homes because of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect or other criminal behavior. The Northeast Louisiana region is considered one of the most impoverished areas of the United States which creates an added need for treatment aimed at social justice, advocacy, and resourcefulness.
