                                        Services

The Family Systems Institute, a division of the Center for Children and Families, empowers families to access resources for change and growth by building a foundation of hope through advocacy and therapy. We seek a united community of authentic relationships among ourselves and for those we serve while striving for integrity and a focus on potential.

The Family Systems Institute provides the following services:

Family Preservation—the Family Systems Institute has developed the Family Foundations Program, a specialized treatment program for at-risk children and youth involved in the juvenile justice system. The program involves a full assessment of families’ needs and strengths, family advocacy, intensive individual and family therapy, multiple family group therapy, and crisis intervention. The Family Foundations Program utilizes Systemic Family Therapy as the bases for all treatment and has demonstrated success rates between 87% and 94% over the course of 6 years.

Reintegration—the Family Systems Institute as adapted its Family Foundations Program to specifically meet the needs of youth transitioning from out-of-home placements, such as secure residential facilities, non-secure facilities, and group homes. The Reintegration Program utilizes individual and family therapy, family advocacy, and adventure based group therapy to reduce the high recidivism rates associated with this population. The program has demonstrated a high degree of success and is currently the focus of rigorous research in order to establish it as an evidenced based program in the treatment of juveniles.

Intensive Home Based Services—working along side the Department of Child and Family Services in Louisiana, the Family Systems Institute provides intensive treatment to families at risk of having their children removed because of abuse or neglect. These services utilize the Homebuilders model for treatment as well as the expertise of our systemically trained clinical staff.

Multi-Systemic Therapy—an intensive family and community based treatment that addresses the multiple determinants of serious antisocial behavior in young offenders. The MST approach views individuals as being nested within a complex network of interconnected systems that encompass individual, family, and extrafamilial (peer, school, neighborhood) factors. Intervention may be necessary in any one or a combination of these systems. In MST this “ecology” of interconnected systems is viewed as the “client”. MST strives to promote behavior change in the youth’s natural environment, using existing strengths within each system (e.g., family, peers, school, neighborhood, informal support network) to facilitate change.

Mental Health Services for Local School Systems—the Family Systems Institute has designed treatment programs to meet the needs of the local school system to service children that have been identified as “at-risk”. Families are offered the opportunity to participate in this voluntary treatment program that provides System Family Therapy.
